AFPO’s mission is to advance quality prosthetics and orthotics (P&O) care in the Philippines by:
Promoting standards of P&O care grounded in evidence-based practice.
Facilitating lifelong learning opportunities and specialized training for Filipino Prosthetists and Orthotists.
Directing stakeholders toward accessible, high-quality P&O services.
Advocating collaboration and harmonious relationships among medical and allied health professionals.
Regulating the profession with a strong commitment to ethical practice.
We envision that AFPO will be recognized as the regulating organization for certified P&O professionals.
We envision a Philippines where there are available, recognized and respected PO professionals anywhere in the country to provide quality P&O care.
The Association of Filipino Prosthetists and Orthotists (AFPO) is a non-governmental organization founded in 2019 and officially recognized by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2021. Our members are all Category 1 Prosthetists and Orthotists, certified through the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) qualification exam.
AFPO is dedicated to promoting best practices and ethical standards in prosthetics and orthotics care. Beyond regulation, we actively participate in community projects and medical missions, providing quality support and compassionate care to patients in need
The yellow salakot, a traditional Philippine straw hat, is designed in the colors of the Philippine flag: blue, red, yellow, and white, symbolizing national pride and identity. The red section represents orthosis, while the grey limb section signifies prosthesis.
Together, they stand over our founding motto, proudly written in the Filipino language: “Quality care and service.”
All AFPO Members are International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) Category 1 Prosthetist and Orthotists. They are graduates of a bachelor of science program and have passed the qualification exam
No, but it is highly encouraged.
By being part of the organization, AFPO clinicians are involved in discussions, continuous learning and programs provided by the organization. The organization also regulates their members internally ensuring best practices and ethical guidelines are observed so feedback, whether positive or negative, from P&O patients can be addressed.
No. Inquiries for P&O service communicated with the organization will be forwarded to the PO directory so one can select and inquire with the clinicians and institutions with Cat 1 practitioners.
AFPO does get involved in projects and medical missions involving P&O patient handling. Other institutions looking to organize such activities can contact us so we can call on members to participate.
The organization membership is reserved for Category 1 PO clinicians. Recently, we have opened up membership for students that are majoring in Prosthetics and Orthotics. For those who wish to participate and contribute in the field of P&O and for other related fields, we encourage joining ISPO Philippines.
Currently, membership is limited to Filipinos.
